Recent Reads | Graphic Novels Chat | Booksandquills.

My love for graphic novels is everlasting, so here are a couple I read recently! One of them is a strong contender for the top 10 books of the year I think.

Yes, I did upload this video 2 weeks ago and then you guys told me there was an error in it, so I had to take it down immediately. Thanks ya’ll!

Can you review my book?
I’m always happy to hear about upcoming books, but I’m afraid I don’t review self-published books and prefer to be contacted by a publisher rather than the author. I can only accept a small number of books for review, since I have a lot of books lined up already. I enjoy reading classics, dystopian/apocalyptic novels, sci-fi, translated fiction and a variety of graphic novels, YA and contemporary literary fiction. You can contact me at

Where is your accent from?
I was born and raised in the Netherlands, studied English Lit at Leiden University (also in the Netherlands), studied in the US for 3 months and have lots of American friends. I’m definitely not Irish or Canadian, I promise!

Where do you live?
I live in London and have been here for 4 years now.

How did you get into publishing?
I did publishing work experience 3 times, did a lot of networking and learned everything I know about social media from creating and running this channel for 8 years. (P.s. You don’t necessarily have to study Publishing or English to get a job in publishing!).

What do you use to film?
I have a Canon 60D with a Tokina 11-16 lens. I edit my videos in Final Cut X.

  1. For some reason the illustrations for The Liszts reminded me of The Great Gatsby.

  2. God damn it Sanne I already have a massive graphic novels wish list, now I have to add more! But seriously I love love LOVE these videos, definitely interested in Spill Zone 🙂

  3. By the way, do you take suggestions for your End of the World book club? 😀 Can't remember if I've suggested it before, but I wanna throw in Feed by Mira Grant. It's about an American society twenty years after what basically was the zombie apocalypse, and it deals with an amazing take on modern media (blogs, social media etc) and how they helped people during the outbreak where traditional media failed. Highly, highly recommend it.

  4. Have you read "Good night stories for Rebel girls" ? I actually bought a copy for my future child (if i ever get round to having one), it's a beautifully illustrated and put together book.

  5. I'm not sure if this has a correlation to "the Liszts", but Liszt is an existing surname in Hungarian meaning "flour". And it is pronounced like "list". (but maybe, their spelling was just a deliberate decision to "posh up" the word list, who knows).

  6. I got the spill zone too as Westerfeld is an auto-buy author for me and it was amazing can't wait for vol 2. This month I also got the 2nd hardcover of Saga and the 1st hardcover of Sunstone both published by image.

  7. I'm so glad you liked the Spill Zone because I've been wanting more Westerfeld after loving Uglies! Also your hair looks particularly lovely in this video!

  8. This is so great! I actually just tried graphic novels and manga for the first time and posted two vlogs about the experience. I'm really looking forward to exploring them more 😊 I love the cover of Spill Zone! I'll definitely have to pick it up!

  9. Unwritten looks really interesting. I'm reading Harry Potter for the first time because I was a weird child and never got into them, so I'm definitely in the mood for some fantasy graphic novels.

  11. I love reading positive reviews of books I didn't like. It's super interesting and sometimes makes me see good things about those books that I hadn't noticed before

  12. I can't wait to read Spill Zone. I love Uglies by Scott Westerfield and can't wait to see how his story-telling translates into a graphic novel!!! (Also Peeps by him is really good.) xx
